When young entrepreneur Josephine Foerster, afflicted since her teenage years by skin problems, could not find on the market natural and effective dermocosmetics that didn’t cause irritation, allergies or breakouts to her sensitive skin, she decided to create her own. It is so, that with the help of a pharmacist aunt, Lovely Day Cosmetics was born. Handmade by a team of just five girls in a small studio in the ubercool area of Neukolln, in the German capital, Berlin, the young indie brand has fast become the favorite of beauty editors and It girls alike. Its strengths? Free from animal and synthetic ingredients, the plant-based vegan products have light textures and effective formulations, and are packed with 100% raw natural ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins and fruit acids of the last generation; and are packed in high quality, stylish, recyclable glass bottles in various sizes, in order to avoid waste. No wonder some of the products have already achieved cult status. The Skin Rescue Problem Skin Oil (euro 39) for instance, thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties of blue tansy and argan oil, calms the most irritated of skin overnight. While the Charcoal Manuka Pha Cleansing Mask, concocted with a mix of Moroccan lava soil, activated charcoal, fruit acids and Manuka from New Zealand, absorbs impurities and reduces enlarged pores, leaving the skin plump and hydrated (euro 19). The Hylauron + Bloom Pink Clay Mask, formulated with French pink clay infused with hyaluronic acid and raspberry oil, gives you rosy cheeks in just 20 minutes (euro 19). There is also a hair product, the Coco Gloss Hair Serum, a lightweight fluid made with coconut silicones & camellia oil that tames frizzy ends without leaving a greasy residue (euro 18). The “clean beauty” products all embody a modern concept of luxury: the luxury of treating your skin with the same love and respect one should reserve for the planet and all living creatures (the company donates 5% of the profit to animal protection organizations).
